CASA welcomes Andrew Andersen
The appointment comes as existing chair, Pat Murray AM, is stepping down following 7 years in the role.
Since 2017, the ASAP has been CASA's primary forum for industry consultation on current and future policies and regulations.
It was introduced to provide informed, objective, high-level advice to us and to address the complexity and duplication created by the consultative committees and panels it replaced.
An engineering graduate and a pilot since 1978, Andrew is well known and respected across the industry as a past president of the Australian Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). He has been an aircraft owner for more than 30 years.
He has chaired the General Aviation Advisory Network (GAAN) since 2019 and is vice president, Pacific Region, of the International Council of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Associations (IAOPA) as well as co-chair of the Australian Strategic Air Traffic Management Group's (ASTRA) Satellite-based Augmentations Systems sub-group.
He has a Bachelor of Engineering and is a member of both Engineers Australia and the Institute of Managers and Leaders.
He has also worked on several of CASA's technical working groups involving future airspace and aviation medicine.
Andrew's role chairing the GAAN means he has a good overview of CASA's work - particularly the impact it can have on general aviation - and his involvement in IAOPA brings a useful international perspective.
In welcoming Andrew to the role, Pip Spence, CASA CEO and Director of Aviation Safety, also extended her gratitude to Pat Murray, who chaired the ASAP since its inception.
