New Chair To Drive Opportunities In Gascoyne

  • Burke Maslen appointed as chair of Gascoyne Development Commission

Regional Development Minister Don Punch has today announced the appointment of Burke Maslen as the new chair of the Gascoyne Development Commision (GDC).

Ms Maslen has served on the GDC's board for four years and has been the Shire of Carnarvon's Deputy President since 2019.

He brings with him senior leadership experience in the local government and private sectors, previously managing his family's pastoral lease at Mardathuna Station before establishing his real estate business Outback Coast Property in Carnarvon.

Mr Maslen's appointment follows the departure of outgoing chair Andy Munro, who has finished up in the role after more than six years of dedicated service to the GDC.

Regional Development Commissions are key to the Cook Labor Government's job-creating agenda on the ground in regional Western Australia, working to grow and diversify the State's regional economies.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

"Our Regional Development Commissions play such a crucial role in promoting sustainable economic and social development across our regions.

"I would like to say a special thanks to outgoing chair Andy Munro for his outstanding leadership, which has been instrumental in guiding the Gascoyne Development Commission (GDC) over the past six years.

"I commend and appreciate his work and the significant progress the Commission has delivered for the people of the Gascoyne under his watch.

"I have no doubt the GDC will continue to make those valuable connections under the leadership of Burke Maslen.

"I wish Mr Maslen all the best in his new role as the chair of GDC. He brings to the board his passion and strategic insight for the pastoral, horticultural, tourism, and mining industries in the region."
