New chapter for Brisbane's Story Bridge
- The start of the Story Bridge Adventure Climb is moving from Kangaroo Point to the Howard Smith Wharves.
- The move was supported by a $200,000 grant from the Tourism Experience Development Fund, which is set to boost a world-first multi-dimensional tourism precinct in Brisbane.
- The operators will also unveil a new all-abilities access trail later this year, made possible by another Queensland Government grant.
The Crisafulli Government has unveiled an all-new adventure hub in the heart of Brisbane City, with the new North Arm Bridge Climb set to enhance the world's first multi-dimensional tourism hub.
Taking pride of place at Howard Smith Wharves, the climb's northern base is set to attract visitors further into the thriving entertainment precinct, offering climbers the ultimate combination of adrenaline and leisure.
The creation of the world's first co-designed accessible bridge climb is also set to be unveiled later this year, and has been made possible through a $250,000 grant from the Queensland Government under the Accessible Tourism Elevate Fund.
This combination of world-leading drawcards brings Brisbane's Story Bridge a step closer to becoming the number one bridge climb in the world.
Minister for the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation Andrew Powell said this is a prime example of the Crisafulli Government's commitment to adventure-based tourism.
"We know people are looking for unique experiences when they travel, and this is exactly the sort of adventure they are after," Minister Powell said.
"The climb takes you approximately 80 metres above sea level and offers pristine views from the city to the sea.
"The addition of the new accessible trail later this year will cement Brisbane's place as the ultimate destination, right in time for a tidal wave of Olympic and Paralympic visitors."
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the extension of the iconic climb would bring more to see and do in Brisbane.
"As Australia's lifestyle capital, our tourism offerings are a huge part of what helps Brisbane stand out from the crowd and continue to be a must-do travel destination.
"We know the Story Bridge is a Brisbane icon and the addition of the new northern climb route will make the precinct around Howard Smith Wharves even more vibrant.
"I can't wait for people to embrace the tradition of the Story Bridge climb in this exciting new way, unlocking incredible new vantage points to take in spectacular city views from above."
CEO of Howard Smith Wharves by Artemus Group, Luke Fraser, says that he is excited to launch this climb for the first time in the Bridge's history.
"The Adventure Climb is a must-do Brisbane tourist activity, and we're excited that for the first time, we can offer a new experience and perspective from the North side of the river. The addition of the adventure swing adds a whole new level of adrenaline for the thrill seekers out there too," Mr Fraser said.
"Since fully acquiring the Adventure Climb last year, we've been looking at ways to maximise the fun for climbers, and we believe this new start and end point for the climb, right in the heart of Howard Smith Wharves will add a new exciting dimension – imagine doing a twilight climb and then heading into one of the many dining options right on the river.
"As tourism continues to grow ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we can't wait to do our small part in showcasing the best of Brisbane.
"Any way we can encourage visitors to stay longer, explore our city and beyond to greater Queensland will only benefit the city and state."
The new North Arm office on Boundary Street (under the Crystalbrook Vincent Hotel) officially opened today, with North Arm Climbs now open for bookings.
