Families across Melbourne's growing west will receive the healthcare they deserve under a new commitment announced today by the Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals.
Whilst Daniel Andrews has run Victoria's health system as Premier or Minister for 12 of the past 16 years communities across Melbourne's west have been neglected and continue to lack the basic health infrastructure they deserve.
The City of Wyndham is the fastest growing area in Victoria and with a population projected to exceed 500,000 by 2041, now is the time for a real solution to ensure local communities can access the highest quality healthcare.
Therefore, a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $900 million to build a new 275 bed Royal Children's Hospital Werribee Campus, to be administered by the Royal Children's Hospital.
This commitment means a dedicated, world-class healthcare facility supporting children and families in the heart of Melbourne's west.
The newRoyal Children's Hospital Werribee Campus will include an emergency department, with its final location and range of services to be determined following consultation with the Royal Children's Hospital and local communities across the City of Wyndham.
This announcement complements the Liberals and Nationals' commitment to commence construction on the Melton Hospital within 12 months – a project that has completely stalled under the Andrews Labor Government.
The Royal Children's Hospital Werribee Campus is the eleventh announced major hospital to be constructed or redeveloped under a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government, with funding to be reprioritised from shelving Daniel Andrews' $35 billion Cheltenham to Box Hill rail line.
Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said the Liberals and Nationals are fully focused on delivering real solutions to fix the health crisis.
"As Premier, my first priority will be to fix the health crisis and ensure all Victorians can get the care they deserve."
"For too long, Melbourne's west has been overlooked and taken for granted. A Government I lead will respect, invest and deliver for the fastest growing community in the state."
"This vital hospital is a real solution to fix the health crisis and will mean better healthcare, closer to home, for Wyndham communities and surrounding areas."
Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said only the Liberals and Nationals had a comprehensive plan to deliver the healthcare Melbourne's west deserved.
"For decades under Daniel Andrews and Labor, health in Melbourne's west has been neglected, meaning too many families have struggled to get the care they need, when they need it."
"The health infrastructure shortages across this area are now critical. Only a change of government will deliver the hospitals and healthcare these growing communities deserve."
