Mickleham locals can look forward to more family-friendly spaces, thanks to recently completed works on a new local community centre, supported by the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Suburban Development Ros Spence today officially opened the Mickleham South Community Centre, made possible by a $2 million investment from the Labor Government's Growing Suburbs Fund.
The centre provides the growing local community with two new kindergarten learning rooms, a playground and a storage shed, as well as four consulting rooms for maternal and child health services and specialist services.
Community members can also access the new centre's multipurpose rooms, a commercial kitchen, a training room and gathering spaces.
The services and programs delivered by the new centre will bring more locals together, including residents in the Botanical and Annadale estates as well as surrounding communities.
Hume City Council contributed more than $3.64 million to the project, while the Victorian School Building Authority contributed $2 million through its Building Blocks Capacity Building Grants.
Since 2015, the Growing Suburbs Fund has provided Hume City Council with more than $36 million in funding towards 37 projects in its local area.
Through its 2023/24 Budget, the Government is investing another $10 million in the Growing Suburbs Fund to support the delivery of critical local infrastructure in Melbourne's fastest-growing communities, as part of an $18.9 million investment to support suburbs across the city.
A new round of the Growing Suburbs Fund is currently open until 20 October. For more information, visit suburbandevelopment.vic.gov.au/grants/growing-suburbs-fund.
