The Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation Ltd has been selected to establish a new Community Resource Centre (CRC) in Roebourne connecting Pilbara residents and businesses to essential services and support programs.
CRCs are not-for-profit organisations that provide a central, easily accessible point for local people, businesses and visitors to access important information and services.
The McGowan Government supports more than 100 rural, remote and regional CRCs across Western Australia.
The Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation, which has been operating in Roebourne for more than 20 years.
Taking on a CRC function will broaden the services the foundation is able to deliver, making it a vital resource hub for Roebourne.
The new Roebourne CRC will provide access to a range of government and community services, and information including education, employment, training and business support, including video conferencing and internet, as well as the opportunity to promote local events, community groups and tourism opportunities.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has worked closely with the Pilbara Development Commission on the establishment of the new Roebourne CRC through an expression of interest process undertaken last year.
The Roebourne CRC is expected to be up and running by mid-2022.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
"The McGowan Government is committed to investing in services for communities in regional Western Australia to ensure they are places that people want to live, work and visit.
"CRCs play a vital role in connecting communities and building the capacity and skills of local people and businesses across rural, regional and remote areas.
"The appointment of Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation Ltd to establish the new CRC is great news for the Roebourne community which will strongly benefit from having access to a wide range of services not previously available."
Comments attributed Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:
"I am looking forward to the new Roebourne CRC to provide the same standard of valuable community service as our other local CRCs in Marble Bar, Nullagine and Tom Price.
"I congratulate the Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation upon their appointment as a CRC to support the needs of local Roebourne residents."
