New Community Sporting Oval Officially Opens In Legana

Tasmanian Government

A new sporting oval in Legana has officially opened today, which will benefit students at the brand new Legana Primary School and the local community.

The oval is owned by West Tamar Council and located next to Launceston's newest primary school, with the Tasmanian Liberal Government contributing $410,000 towards the oval's $2.5 million construction.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the oval is a welcome addition for the growing Legana community.

"This oval will be a hub for the community, and it's fantastic to see it come to life," Minister Palmer said.

"The state-of-the-art facilities can be used by students from Legana Primary School during school hours, as well as the broader community outside of school hours.

"We value our partnerships with local councils that deliver benefits to communities across Tasmania, and we are proud to have contributed towards the oval's construction.

"The Legana community is thriving and we're now just days away from students walking through the Legana Primary School gates for the first time.

"The new school features contemporary learning spaces, outdoor areas and an onsite community oral health clinic.

"Our Government is building on our record investment in education infrastructure through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future."

The Tasmanian Government partnered with the West Tamar Council on the design and construction of the nearby subdivision, services and road infrastructure for the school and sporting precinct.

West Tamar Mayor Christina Holmdahl said the Oval is an exciting project for not only the Legana community, but for the entire West Tamar region.

"This amazing facility includes a full-sized sports oval that will be widely used by our community, along with four light towers, a cricket pitch and perimeter fencing."
