Members of the community are invited to make submissions on an application by the Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel in Noraville to purchase Crown Land to expand its aged care facility.
Department of Planning, Industry and Environment Acting Executive Director of Crown Lands, Alison Pepper, said the proposal has been placed on public exhibition for 28 days and community feedback is encouraged.
"The Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel is a not-for-profit aged care facility which provides accommodation for about 76 residents in Noraville," Ms Pepper said.
"The hostel has applied to the Department to purchase under lease the 2.548 hectares of Crown Land in Evans Road on which it is located.
"The hostel wants to purchase the land so it can progress plans to expand the facility by up to another 60 beds, subject to local development approvals, to support affordable housing options for the aging population in the Noraville area.
"The Department has placed the land sale proposal on public exhibition until 25 August and is seeking community and stakeholder feedback via submissions."
Ms Pepper said full community consultations are required when proposals such as this are received under the Crown Land Management Act 2016.
"We want to ensure that all community and stakeholder views are fully understood before any decision on the proposed land sale is made," Ms Pepper said.
"Any decision on the sale will need to take into account any social, economic, cultural heritage or environmental considerations as required by the Act.
"Following the community engagement period all submissions will be reviewed and any issues considered as part of the Department's final decision making.
"Once a final decision is made all submission makers will be notified and the decision will be published on the Department's website."
