New Councillors Welcomed

The Victorian Electoral Commission announced the 2024-2028 Yarra Ranges provisional Councillors at the Civic Centre today, Friday 8 November. The new Councillors are due to be sworn into office on Saturday 9 November 2024.

There are four new councillors who make up nearly half of the nine-member council, with five of the incumbent councillors re-elected.

The new councillors, candidates and members of the public were in attendance when the announcement was made.

Yarra Ranges new Council includes:

  • Billanook Ward - Tim Heenan (re-elected)
  • Chandler Ward - Gareth Ward
  • Chirnside Ward - Richard Higgins (re-elected)
  • Lyster Ward - Peter McIlwain
  • Melba Ward - Mitch Mazzarella
  • O'Shannassy Ward - Jim Child (re-elected)
  • Ryrie Ward - Fiona McAllister (re-elected)
  • Streeton Ward - Jeff Marriott
  • Walling Ward - Len Cox (re-elected)

Yarra Ranges Council Chief Executive Officer Tammi Rose said, "We welcome our new and returning councillors and look forward to building on the strong work of the previous term.

"The business of Council can be complex and there will be plenty for our new councillors to learn over the coming weeks and months ahead with staff and experienced councillors on hand to help."
