New Crown Counsel Appointed

VIC Premier

The Victorian Government has announced the appointment of Sarah Keating as Crown Counsel.

The Crown Counsel provides high-level advice to Government and conducts reviews and investigations on a range of legal and policy-related matters.

Ms Keating brings extensive experience in public and criminal law with more than sixteen years as a barrister at the Victorian Bar.

Since being called to the Bar in 2008, Ms Keating has appeared in complex criminal trials, appeals, judicial review proceedings, commissions of inquiry and tribunals.

Her experience includes high-profile criminal and regulatory cases involving allegations of murder, fraud, cartel conduct, workplace manslaughter, professional misconduct and corrupt behaviour.

Ms Keating received the Mentor Award from the Women Barristers' Association in 2022 for her dedication to development of junior members of the Bar. She has also served as Honorary Treasurer of the Victorian Bar and executive member of Bar Council.

Before to joining the Bar, she served as an associate to the Honourable Justice Elizabeth Curtain in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Ms Keating replaces Liam Brown SC as Crown Counsel for more than five years, following Mr Brown's resignation from the position in July this year.

As stated by Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes

"Ms Keating has been a leader at the Bar with her impressive experience across public and criminal law, as well as being recognised for her guidance of junior lawyers."

"I look forward to seeing Ms Keating continue the critical work of the Crown Counsel. I also thank outgoing Crown Counsel Liam Brown SC for his five years of service and expert legal advice to government."
