New Croydon Station Now Open

VIC Premier

The new Croydon Station has opened to passengers this morning, as the local community continues to reap the benefits of the Allan Labor Government making the Lilydale Line the first metropolitan train line to be level crossing free - one year ahead of schedule.

Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson today announced the opening of the new station, which will become the centerpiece of the Croydon Transport Hub.

Expected to be completed later in spring, it will feature a 14-bay bus interchange, 284 parking spaces and safer road connections to reduce congestion for people crossing the rail line.

Croydon Station is now fully accessible and features two elevated platforms, lifts, toilets and a waiting room.

The station precinct will also feature 650 metres of new walking and cycling paths and more than 70,000 new trees, shrubs, and grasses.

More than 1,600 people use Croydon Station daily and 72,000 passengers use the Lilydale/Belgrave line each weekday, making it the second busiest rail line in the metropolitan network.

Croydon Station was delivered as part of the removal of Coolstore Road's dangerous and congested level crossing, which together with the removal of the Dublin Road level crossing in Ringwood East last month made the Lilydale Line boom gate free.

Since 2017, Croydon Station is one of six new stations delivered on the Lilydale Line - while nine dangerous and congested level crossings have been removed.

The Level Crossing Removal Project is removing 110 level crossings across Melbourne, with 84 level crossings already gone for good, boosting safety and reducing congestion.

As stated by Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson

"With sweeping views out to the Dandenongs, commuters using the epic new Croydon Station and the transit hub will benefit from safer and more accessible trips."
