The eyes of the global TEDx community will be on the South West, with TEDxWarrnambool set to be held on May 28.
The event was originally scheduled for April 3, 2020, but restrictions introduced to slow the spread of COVID-19 in March meant it had to be postponed.
All six speakers from the original line-up have been retained, and both the venue for the event itself and the official live-stream site are able to accommodate 100 socially-distanced audience members each.
In order to keep events intimate, TEDx events of this scale are capped at 100 attendees at each site, so no audience places have been lost due to COVID-safe event requirements.
TED is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to "ideas worth spreading" in the form of short, powerful talks published for free online.
TEDx events are local, self-organsied events that aim to spark conversations both within communities and globally.
TEDx videos are among the most watched videos on Youtube, with 30 million people subscribing to the TEDx Talks Youtube channel. For comparison, Beyonce has 22 million subscribers, ESPN has 7.7 million subscribers and the Premier League has 1.6 million subscribers.
TEDxWarrnambool Organiser Helen Sheedy said that after a long wait, she was ecstatic to be able to lock in the new date.
"The past year has been one of the most tumultuous in modern history, and I think that as a society, we need TEDx now more than ever," she said.
"This is evident in the huge spike of views on what was already one of the most popular forms of online content. TEDx Talks Youtube subscribers have jumped from 22 million to 30 million in the past year.
"As the world grapples with COVID-19, people around the world have taken stock on what is most important to them. They are actively seeking to make positive changes in their lives and their communities, and that's what TEDx is all about - ideas worth spreading.
"At TEDx Warrnambool, we will be telling local stories to a global audience with the aim of inspiring people to do what they can to make a better world."
Ms Sheedy thanked TEDxWarrnambool speakers and ticket holders for their patience while the event was postponed.
"Having all of our original speakers available to present on the re-scheduled date is excellent news - so all of the stories everyone was so looking forward to hearing will still be told," she said.
"The deliberately small number of audience members permitted at each event has worked in our favour too, so we are able to have the full allocation of ticketholders at each site and stay within all of the latest COVID-safe rules.
"After securing tickets in a ballot process and then having the event postponed just a couple of weeks before the original date, our audience members have been incredibly understanding. Hopefully the past year of anticipation has them more excited than ever to be in the audience to hear first-hand from our incredible line-up of TEDxWarrnambool speakers.
"Anyone no longer able to attend is entitled to a full refund, and all ticket holders have been contacted with information about this."
