A new multi-million-dollar, state-of-the-art police station in the state’s south-west has been officially opened today by Minister for Police, Troy Grant MP and Acting NSW Police Commissioner Jeff Loy APM, NSW Police say.
Construction of Deniliquin Police Station began in May 2016 and incorporates custody facilities with charge docks and cells, Audio Visual Link (AVL), modern breath analysis and drug testing equipment, briefing rooms and a fully-equipped defence training room.
The new modern facility replaces the previous building on the site which dated back to 1962, and no longer met the needs of the local community or the officers stationed there.
The $18 million station has workspaces for general duties police, investigators, Traffic and Highway Patrol officers, prosecutors, forensic services, crime management units and administration staff while also providing officers with a secure victim support room, which can be used to conduct interviews.
Acting Commissioner Loy said the crime fighting capabilities available to the Murray River Police District are now some of the best in the state.
"The new station means our police are housed in a state-of-the-art facility with access to cutting edge resources to respond to, target, disrupt and prevent crime in the local community," Acting Commissioner Loy said.
"The community should have every confidence in the dedicated officers who will continue to work hard to maintain their safety and security."
Minister Grant said the opening of the station marks an important new chapter for the recently formed Murray River Police District.
"Community safety is my number one priority and that means ensuring our men and women in blue have every resource possible to help them do their jobs," Minister Grant said.
"The Government is committed to ensuring police have the best equipment available to do their jobs no matter where they’re stationed throughout the state."
Murray District Police District Commander Superintendent Evan Quarmby welcomed the improved facilities and resources.
"Deniliquin Police Station is a regional hub supporting our smaller remote communities including Barham, Jerilderie, Barooga, Tocumwal, Moama and Finley," Superintendent Quarmby said.
"It’s such a positive milestone for the entire community and the advances in resources enable us to better manage proactive operations, mid-level criminal investigations and dedicated training exercises."
