The Australian Research Council has appointed two new Executive Directors to provide expert advice and guidance across the ARC's core functions and discipline areas.
ARC CEO Ms Judi Zielke PSM, announced the appointment of Professor Anika Gauja as the Executive Director for Social, Behavioural and Economic Sciences and Professor Christina Twomey as the Executive Director for Humanities and Creative Arts.
"The appointment of two highly qualified scholars with strong Australian and international research networks will broaden the knowledge and expertise available to the ARC. As internationally respected researchers, these Executive Directors will liaise with the research community and contribute their expertise to inform ARC programs, policies, and peer review processes," Ms Zielke said.
"These appointments ensure that the ARC has expertise across the full spectrum of the humanities and social sciences through to the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines. This will ensure that the ARC is best positioned to encourage projects that will deliver cultural, economic, social, or environmental benefits to Australia."
Professor Gauja is currently Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Sydney University and is an internationally recognised political scientist and the Lead Editor of the Australian Journal of Political Science.
Professor Twomey is Professor of History and former Head of the School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies at Monash University. A prize-winning historian, she is an elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities and of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.
Professor Gauja and Professor Twomey will join the ARC in early January 2023.
