New Exhibit Celebrates City's Young Artists

Join Townsville City Galleries and Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts as their newest collaborative exhibition Young Indigenous Printmakers opens to the public at Pinnacles Gallery this Saturday.

The exhibition is the culmination of a free education program for senior First Nations high school students to learn lino carving, printing and editioning as well as building their experiencing exhibiting art.

Umbrella's Arts Programs Manager Erin Ricardo said the program made a significant impact on the young artists.

"We are extremely proud to coordinate The Young Indigenous Printmakers program with Townsville City Galleries for students at Cleveland Education and Training Centre and Anglicare North Queensland. Young Indigenous Printmakers is more than just a program - it's a transformative experience that empowers students to express Culture through printmaking, build relationships with their peers and discover their artistic potential," Ms Ricardo said.

"We urge you to support Young Indigenous Printmakers and experience the incredible talent of these young artists firsthand. Watching them grow and develop their artistic voices is truly inspiring. Their passion and creativity are a testament to power of art to transform lives. Special thanks to Ricky Emmerton and Margaret Robertson who have generously shared their knowledge and expertise to guide the YIPs workshops both in The Studio and remotely."

Councillor Liam Mooney said Council was proud to further its commitment to the arts in conjunction with Townsville's very own Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts.

"Council continuously works to grow local artists' talents and professional outlooks, including through increasing our avenues for youth art workshops, exhibitions and productions," Cr Mooneysaid.

"We're very pleased to be able to work in conjunction with Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts to bring this wonderful celebration of young First Nations artists to Pinnacles Gallery at Riverway."

Young Indigenous Printmakers will be open at Pinnacles Gallery from this Saturday until Sunday November 10.
