Ararat Gallery TAMA is proud to present a new exhibition set to pay tribute to late Willaura artist Carole Mules.
The curated selection will showcase an array of textile works inspired by natural scenery, local landscapes and Carole's memories of Willaura and surrounds.
Looking back at Carole's textile practice, the exhibition celebrates Carole's deep connection to Willaura's history and environment. She created a rich palette of textures and colours using combinations of contact printing with native plants and found objects, freehand machine stitching, hand stitching, cut and collage, floral resist, and tying and folding fabric.
Having returned to Western Victoria in the 2010s, Carole undertook further study to develop her textiles practice, and Carole created a rich palette of textures and colours using combinations of contact printing with native plants and found objects, freehand machine stitching, hand stitching, cut and collage, floral resist, and tying and folding fabric.
Ararat Gallery Visual Arts Coordinator Katy Mitchell is proud for the gallery to be honouring Carole's legacy and textile practice in this exhibition.
"Renowned for her landscape textiles, local artist Carole Mules was a highly valued member of the gallery community with her positive enthusiasm and support," Ms Mitchell said.
"Carole served on the Ararat Gallery Advisory Committee for two years and showed great commitment to the gallery and its role within the community.
"Sadly, Carole passed away in September 2021 following a short illness. The Gallery has worked closely with her friends and family to bring this tribute exhibition to the community.
"We have so much appreciation for Carole's impact on the local art scene and look forward to sharing her pieces with the community."
