We are enhancing amenities in Elsternwick Park South to improve the visitor experience for sports, recreation and dog walkers.
New outdoor fitness equipment stations have been installed, a new public toilet is being constructed and the playground in the north end of Elsternwick Park South is being upgraded.
New fitness facilities
The path network around Elsternwick Park South now features four new fitness stations that cater for a wide variety of ages and exercises styles, as well as instructions on how to alter the equipment and introduce additional challenges to your workout. The new equipment is now ready for community use, with low-level fencing temporarily installed around the perimeter to protect the new grass.
New public toilet
We sought community feedback on our proposal to install the new public toilet at Elsternwick Park South.
The feedback we received demonstrated that there is strong community support for a new toilet in Elsternwick Park however, the proposed location would be better suited closer to Oval 4 for sports and recreation users and dog walkers to utilise.
This location has been chosen because:
- it is close to public amenities (Oval 4, playground and barbeque area)
- is highly visible for safety and accessibility
- has access to underground infrastructure
- provides an increase buffer from residential properties.
Construction on the new toilet will commence by the end of August and the new facilities will be ready in October 2024.
Playground upgrade
The playground in Elsternwick Park South (northern section) is currently out of action while we install at great new play design. The playground will feature a range of new playground equipment in response to community feedback, as well as accessibility improvements and new planting for more shade. The new playground will be ready for play in October 2024.
