New Facility Upgrades For Four Campbelltown Sports Grounds

Campbelltown's sporting community is set to benefit from almost $2 million worth of upgrades for four sports grounds across the region.

The works – which consist of field irrigation/drainage and lighting upgrades – are taking place at Eschol Park Sports Complex, Raby Sporting Complex, Jackson Park and Hazlett Oval.

The significant projects have been made possible by Campbelltown City Council in conjunction with the NSW Office of Sport's Essential Community Sports Asset Program, NSW Football Legacy Fund and Local Small Commitments Allocation.

The works include:

  • Almost $1 million in funding for new drainage works at both Eschol Park Sports Complex Basin 1 and Basin 2. As part of this project, Basin 1 will also receive a brand-new fence. The project has been funded by the NSW Government through the Essential Community Sports Assets Program and NSW Football Legacy Fund Round 1, Local Small Commitments Allocation and Campbelltown City Council.
  • More than $550,000 in funding for new drainage works and field resilience works at Raby Sporting Complex's Field 1 and Field 2. The project has been funded by the NSW Government through the Essential Community Sports Assets Program and Campbelltown City Council.
  • $350,000 in funding for new irrigation and drainage works at Jackson Park. The project has been funded by the NSW Government through the Football Legacy Fund Round 1 and Campbelltown City Council.
  • $150,000 in funding for new flood lighting at Hazlett Oval. The project has been funded by the NSW Government through the NSW Football Legacy Fund Round 2 and Campbelltown City Council.

"These significant projects will be important for ensuring the sustainability of our sporting complexes across our city," Mayor of Campbelltown Darcy Lound said.

"This is a great example of local government and state government working together to ensure positive outcomes for sporting clubs that work hard to provide a healthy and quality lifestyle for our community," Cr Lound said.

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said projects like these showed the NSW Government's commitment to upgrading sporting infrastructure so that it best met the needs of the whole community.

"Our government is focused on building better communities. Improvements like these ensure that more people are able to participate in sport by providing infrastructure that makes them feel comfortable to do so and are more resilient to further climate events," Mr Kamper said.

Leppington MP Nathan Hagarty said these upgrades would ensure that local athletes – whether they're sporting greats or weekend warriors – had the facilities that they deserve.

"Sport brings together people, builds resilience and inspires the next generation. This investment is about making sure everyone in Leppington has the opportunity to play, compete and thrive," Mr Hagarty said.

Works have started at Eschol Park Sports Complex and Raby Sporting Complex, and Campbelltown City Council looks forward to handing these assets over to the sporting community to enjoy in the coming months.

Works are complete at Jackson Park and Hazlett Oval, with both projects under the maintenance period with Council. However, these sports grounds have re-opened for the general public to use.
