Two new firefighting appliances will enhance Queensland Fire and Rescue's (QFR) emergency response capability in the Caloundra region.
Keys to the new appliances were officially delivered by Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt at a Caloundra South Fire and Rescue Station ceremony.
Caloundra and Caloundra South Fire and Rescue stations have both received a new Type 3 appliance, valued at $1.15 million.
The Type 3 is the jack-of-all-trades appliance, enabling firefighters to tackle structural, petrol, chemical and grass fires.
The combination of a 1500-litre water tank and 4500-litre a minute pump with a foam injection system means firefighters can respond more efficiently to emergencies.
As stated by Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt:
"We know firefighters from Caloundra and Caloundra South Fire and Rescue Stations do world-class job on the frontline to keep Queenslanders safe.
"The combined $2.3 million invested by the Miles Government in new workhorse appliances at Caloundra and Caloundra South mean firefighters will be safer while doing lifesaving work.
"These Type 3 appliances deliver peace-of-mind for the southern Sunshine Coast community and ensure firefighters have the right tools for the job."
As stated by the Minister for Fire and Disaster Recovery Nikki Boyd:
"The safety of Queenslanders is a priority for the Miles Government and that includes our State's frontline firefighters.
"Delivering the keys to these new, high-tech Type 3 appliances strengthens the southern Sunshine Coast's frontline response capability to fire emergencies.
"This investment in Caloundra is part of the Miles Government's strategic roll out of $44.9 million in firefighting appliances across Queensland.
"The LNP will slash the frontline services Queenslanders rely on, like firefighters, to honour LNP promises to multi-national miners to hand back billions in coal royalties."
As stated by QFR Acting Assistant Commissioner Kevin Reading:
"Queensland Fire Department provides fit-for-purpose appliances to keep communities safe.
"With an increased demand on emergency services it's important to have a contemporary fleet for our firefighters.
"These appliances are a great asset for Caloundra's two busy fire and rescue stations, and the crews have been training and familiarising themselves with the appliance in preparation for incidents."
