New Funding For Reef Research

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

The Australian Government has announced $8 million in funding to deliver critical Reef research.

A component of this funding will support the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP).

RRAP is the world's largest collective effort to protect coral reefs from climate change.

It is one of a few programs globally that is developing tools to support reefs to adapt to climate change.

The funding will contribute to research to support pilot deployment of RRAP interventions.

These interventions include using aquaculture to breed healthy corals and those that are more resistant to heat.

It will also support critical modelling activities, partnerships for co-investments and ensure RRAP can build and retain capacity.

In addition, funding will help combine data to track progress of our investments under the Reef 2050 Plan. This includes our landscape repair and coastal rehabilitation investments.

This will be delivered through the creation of a Reef account, as part of the National Ecosystem Accounts.

This investment is funded through the Reef Trust.

The Reef Trust is Australia's investment program to support the Reef 2050 Plan.
