The City of Playford is releasing new grant funding streams open to not-for-profit organisations looking for financial support for a community project, local event or low-cost accommodation.
Council's Community Support and Grant Program has recently reviewed its offerings to establish diverse lines of support that help community organisations and clubs to address the emerging needs of our community.
The revised Community Support and Grant program includes the following grant streams:
- Community Development Grants - once-off support to deliver innovative opportunities to get involved in the local community, two grant rounds a year.
- Individual and Equipment Grants - financial support for the purchase of equipment, for outstanding achievement in competitions or personal development opportunities for Playford residents and to support young people to participate in Playford clubs.
- Programs and Event Support - financial or in-kind contributions to groups to support the delivery of events and programs in Playford.
- Building Spaces Support - for longer term accommodation support in a Council community facility as selected spaces become available.
- Financial Support - available once a year for a period of three years, for operational support.
The Building Spaces Support and Financial Support categories are new to the program and aim to connect groups and clubs to available Council facilities, helping them create a base and gain financial support for operational costs.
Mayor Glenn Docherty said there are many community organisations active today and we recognise the role Council plays in supporting them to grow in line with our population.
"We've discovered that our community organisations need varying levels of support to help them get started or trial new services, ranging from subsided rent, operational costs to in-kind support, such as assistance with advertising and finding somewhere to establish a base," said the Mayor.
As Council hosts its own calendar of large-scale events, support is provided from time-to-time to community groups looking to host large inaugural events, whether it's of a financial or in-kind nature, helping to generate more opportunities for the city to come together.
"We noticed that Council sometimes provided support in the form of small sponsorships to community events, so the Programs and Events grant is meant to open this pathway and provide a more formalised, consistent process for more groups to share in the support."
Financial Support grants are currently open for applications and close on 16 August 2024
The first selected facilities in the Building Spaces Support category will open 12 August 2024, and close on 20 September 2024.
