A new partnership between Mildura Rural City Council and Agriculture Victoria will assist farm businesses tackle ongoing drought recovery through a one-off grant.
The Drought Recovery Grant Program is now open to eligible farm businesses in the Millewa-Carwarp area, and will provide a one-off grant of up to $3000 (ex-GST) to implement drought restoration and other land management activities.
This includes:
- Helping to manage farm properties to recover from drought conditions
- Supporting the long-term viability of a farm
- Minimising further damage to soil
- Helping prevent soil erosion and environmental impacts
Councillor for Environment and Sustainability Jodi Reynolds said Council was excited to partner with Agriculture Victoria to make the important funds available to those most impacted by recent drought conditions.
"Our Millewa and Carwarp farmers have been among the hardest hit by ongoing droughts, resulting in sand drift issues and the closure of their local road networks, and other impacts from soil erosion," she said.
"Funds available are earmarked for specific activities, including costs associated with professional services engaged for soil erosion restoration or activities, machine hire, planting of native or indigenous vegetation to create wind breaks and so much more.
"Council has worked closely with the Millewa and Carwarp farming community and Agriculture Victoria to ensure this grant meets specific needs around soil erosion and recovery.
"We look forward to seeing some of the exciting projects this grant will help fund."
The Drought Recovery Grant Program will be open for applications until funds are exhausted, or 11.59pm on 30 June 2022.
