New guide to support water management and reporting

The MCA has released a new user guide for its sector-leading Water Accounting Framework to coincide with World Water Day.

The innovative framework provides a consistent approach to understanding water use and benchmark performance.

This helps companies better manage water risks, harness opportunities and communicate water use to communities, investors and others.

The updated user guide draws on more than a decade of industry experience to provide practical guidance for companies and ensures it keeps pace with changing expectations.

It demonstrates that Australia's mining companies are putting its commitment to continual improvement in water stewardship into practice.

Originally developed in partnership with the University of Queensland Sustainable Minerals Institute in 2011, the framework has been included in global water reporting standards - reinforcing Australian industry leadership on water management and transparency.

The minerals industry is committed to responsible stewardship of Australia's water resources.

It has long-recognised water as a precious and shared resource with social, cultural, environmental and economic values.
