Nationals Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, has welcomed the completion of purpose-built accommodation which will host new staff across three units at West Wyalong hospital.
The units, part of the Key Worker Accommodation Program, will house health staff while they settle into the West Wyalong community, with fully furnished units providing a crucial home base for staff moving to the district.
"Attracting new nurses, doctors and health staff to regional NSW can be a challenge. By overcoming housing shortages, there is a chance for new nurses to see just what our region has to offer and provide the security to build a life in our beautiful towns and villages," Ms Cooke said.
"This is proof positive that if we build the infrastructure and support systems to welcome new people into our communities; they will come."
Ms Cooke has advocated, alongside hospital staff and members of the community, for new and innovative solutions to staff shortages to boost the health workforce across the Cootamundra electorate.
"With further accommodation being delivered in Narrandera later this year, it is very exciting to see promises delivered for our communities," Ms Cooke said.
"This is a step in the right direction for NSW Health, and I look forward to strengthening our highly skilled workforce here in West Wyalong, and across our large, rural, electorate."
