The Tatura CFA brigade has welcomed a new heavy tanker to its fleet thanks to funding from the Allan Labor Government, boosting the safety of volunteer firefighters as they continue protecting their community.
Minister for Emergency Services Jaclyn Symes today visited the Tatura Fire Brigade to officially handover the heavy tanker worth $460,000 and thank volunteers for the vital work they do.
The tanker has a modern interface with up-to-date safety features, a 4000-litre water tank, and rollover and burn-over protection to increase the safety of volunteers in high heat situations.
The tanker is more sustainable than previous tankers thanks to its use of more recyclable materials and an electric rewind hose reel to improve ergonomics and efficiency.
The tanker is also dual cab which allows more crew members to fit inside the cabin, lowering their exposure to danger.
Tatura Fire Brigade's new vehicle is part of a broader $22.7 million rollout of 48 heavy tankers and two light tankers, funded through the Labor Government's CFA Capability Funding Package.
The funding creates new training opportunities and develops better facilities and appliances for firefighters across the state, while supporting initiatives to encourage recruitment and retention of volunteers.
More than 20 brigades have already received a heavy tanker under this rollout. The CFA will receive all the remaining tankers by the middle of the year.
The Tatura Fire Brigade has played an important role in the local community for 130 years. The brigade also celebrated moving into a new fire station in 2021 to better suit its changing needs.
The brigade has a total of 65 members who attend around 110 callouts per year, assisting with fires, explosions, and rescues.
