A proposal for a new heritage conservation area and new heritage items in Berry will be progressed to the State Government for initial Gateway determination.

At this week's meeting, Council resolved to recommend an additional heritage conservation area and new heritage items and incorporate additional planning measures that would involve updating the Shoalhaven Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2014 and Development Control Plan (DCP) 2014.

The proposed update is based on the outcome of community consultation and heritage assessment work conducted earlier this year and sees the start of the more formal preparation and consultation process to prepare a planning proposal and new chapter for the DCP.

The planning proposal would include a new Heritage Conservation Area in the Princess Street area with nine new heritage items within and nine new heritage items outside of the boundary, but within the area of Berry east of the Princes Highway.

A new chapter will also be prepared for the area of Berry east of the Princes Highway/bypass to be included in the Shoalhaven DCP.

The planning proposal will initially be submitted to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) and if a favourable Gateway determination is received, be placed on public exhibition for the community, including affected landowners.

The draft new DCP Chapter for Berry would also be exhibited at the same time and a report brought back to councillors to consider finalising the amendments.
