Mothers, babies and families across Greater Springfield will have world-class maternity and paediatric healthcare services on their doorstep when their new public hospital opens.
The hospital, currently under construction, is the result of a landmark public-private partnership between Mater and the Queensland Government to enhance and expand healthcare services for the rapidly growing Western Corridor community.
Mater Public Hospital Springfield will be integrated with the existing Mater Private Hospital Springfield and will provide a combined total of 228 beds, an Emergency Department, an Intensive Care Unit and a range of specialist services when it opens in 2026.
Queensland Health Minister Shannon Fentiman said the new hospital was a $1 billion state government investment in the future health of people living in the Greater Springfield region.
"All Queenslanders deserve to have worldclass healthcare, closer to home and this new hospital will make sure Springfield families have exactly that," Ms Fentiman said.
"With so many families moving to call South East Queensland home, we know the new beds are critical to meet the growing demand for healthcare.
"It's why I'm thrilled we've partnered with Mater to deliver top-quality maternity and paediatric care, helping local families thrive and live healthy lives."
Queensland Minister for Child Safety, Seniors, Disability Services and Multicultural Affairs, Jordan MP Charis Mullen, said the State Government was partnering with Mater to ensure the Springfield community has access to high-quality public healthcare, close to home.
"We know that a quarter of the Springfield population is children aged 14 years and younger and that there is a growing number of Queenslanders choosing to raise their families in this community," she said.
"They need world-class maternity services close to home where mothers can receive care throughout their pregnancies and then have their babies locally."
General Manager Suzanne Hawksley said the new hospital would be part of the nation-leading Mater Mothers' hospital network – Australia's largest provider of maternity services – and would transform healthcare services for families in the region.
"There will be six birthing suites, two birthing pools, 16 special care neonatal cots and a Pregnancy Assessment Centre," said Ms Hawksley.
"Key paediatric services will include acute care presentations ranging from chest infections, pneumonia, asthma, epilepsy, croup and jaundice."
Mater estimates the paediatrics inpatient unit will support 2,500 inpatient admissions a year.
