Construction is underway on three houses for local primary school teachers in the Shire of Kent.
The homes will be delivered by the Shire of Kent, with the State Government to lease the properties as Government Regional Officer Housing (GROH) once completed.
All three homes will be located close to local primary schools to help attract and retain teachers to the townships of Pingrup and Nyabing.
The homes include a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Pingrup and two two-bedroom, one-bathroom houses in Nyabing. All three are expected to be completed later this year.
The GROH program provides housing for government workers including teachers and police in regional locations to ensure essential services can be delivered.
During this term of Parliament, the McGowan Government will invest $200 million towards GROH, including around $100 million to deliver new housing.
As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:
"Ensuring regional communities have access to critical State Government workers such as teachers and police officers is essential.
"Partnering with local governments like the Shire of Kent is a fantastic way we can deliver more housing for critical workers.
"I want to give the Shire of Kent a shout out for being proactive and working collaboratively with the State to deliver positive outcomes for their community. That is what good local government is all about.
"We know there is more work to do and during this term of Parliament we will be investing $200 million into GROH housing, including $100 million to deliver new homes across the State."
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"It's important to have the highest quality teachers working in our schools, no matter where they are located around the State.
"The State Government's $200 million commitment to GROH housing is a significant investment in our regional workforce, and it is great to see construction of new properties for teachers underway."
As stated by Kent Shire President Scott Crosby:
"By investing in houses to support GROH, we hope to encourage quality teachers to our Shire to support our strong and active schools in both Nyabing and Pingrup.
"Supporting our education system ensures our children in our district get the best possible start to life, which we trust will flow on to further enhance our strong social and agricultural heritage."
