The wedge-tailed eagle, a symbol of leadership and courage, has been used as the inspiration for a unique artwork commissioned to represent the Australian Military Police.

Chief of Personnel Lieutenant General Natasha Fox unveiled the work of art, along with artist Kristie Peters and Military Police representative Garawa man Private Tyreece Potts, at an event on Ngunnawal country in Canberra recently.

The image represents protection and strength, showing the importance of a strong and respectful military police team that comes together to protect and support ADF people.

"I'm proud to be able to unveil this beautiful art. Each time I look at it I see something else in the story - it represents personal growth and embodies what a team is. Coming together to support capability," General Fox said.

"Our police community build and maintain strong and respectful relationships in the community and the artwork is a deep reflection of that."

Ms Peters, a Wiradjuri woman, said she was proud to be commissioned by Joint Military Police Unit to create the art.

"I am honoured to have been given this incredible opportunity to create something so meaningful to the team and create a visual representation of the unit," she said.

'The handprints on the art represent Navy, Army and Air Force working side by side.'

"This artwork symbolises the heart of the Australian Military Police. It represents the extraordinary team of men and women who serve their nation walking together with strength and resilience in their spirit and blood.

"In Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander culture, the wedge-tailed eagle represents a great spirit who watches over and protects. This aligns with the role of the Australian Military Police.

"The wedge-tailed eagle also symbolises leadership and courage. Just like the eagles, you were born to be leaders. Blessed with a powerful vision and the compassion to listen to the need of others.

"The handprints on the art represent Navy, Army and Air Force working side by side.

"I hope this artwork serves as a powerful reminder of all the sacrifices that you all continue to make in safeguarding our nation and I hope that it will inspire others to reflect on the importance of the values that you uphold. I am truly humbled and grateful to be a part of your story."

The art demonstrates the ADF's connection with First Nations peoples and the environments we work in. It will be displayed in Australian Military Police workplaces across Australia and used across a range of products.

ADF Military Police are posted to Defence establishments around Australia and observe traditional custodians of country, wherever they live or serve.
