New Judge Appointed to Sydney's Federal Circuit Court

The Attorney-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Honourable Mark Dreyfus KC MP has today announced the appointment of Ms Di Simpson as a Judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) (Division 1).

Justice Simpson has been appointed to the Sydney registry of the Court and will commence on 3 February 2025.

Chief Justice Alstergren AO, said that the appointment of Justice Simpson is warmly welcomed.

"With over 30 years of experience as a solicitor advocate in family law, Justice Simpson is an appropriate and well qualified addition to the bench.

"Her Honour has an in-depth knowledge of family violence, and her experience, temperament and skill will be of great benefit to the Court.

"On behalf of the Court, I am delighted to welcome Justice Simpson to the Bench. Her Honour's strong commitment to access to justice will play a crucial role in enabling her to faithfully serve the communities of New South Wales. Her Honour has been a great leader of the profession and will no doubt serve the Court with the same unwavering dedication." the Chief Justice said.

Justice Di Simpson

Justice Simpson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne, and was admitted to practice as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1993. In 2007, her Honour was a founding partner of DDCS Lawyers in Canberra, and was Chair of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia from 2021 to 2024.
