TasTAFE's Burnie Campus is set to further support regional skills and training, with the commencement of design work for new on-campus student accommodation.
Construction of the new $7 million 25-bedroom facility will support the needs of TasTAFE learners who need to travel to undertake their training.
Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, said we want to make it as easy as possible for Tasmanians to access the training they need to succeed.
"It's so important that we open as many doors as we can to get more young Tasmanians on the tools and skilled-up in their chosen field, particularly in our regions," Minister Ellis said.
"With state-of-the-art facilities like the Freer Farm Centre of Excellence attracting students from far and wide, and future possibilities like the Renewable Energy training facility set to be delivered in Burnie, we're ensuring students from across the North West, West Coast and King Island can be supported to learn the skills they need to succeed.
"The investment in this project helps TasTAFE deliver a key part of its Reimaging TasTAFE – a 10-year Strategic Plan - putting learners at the centre by ensuring they have access to the training for the skills they need.
"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, our government is delivering a job-ready generation of Tasmanians and investing in our people to future-proof our economy for years to come."
The project is due to go to tender by the end of the year.
