Innovative aged care provider NewDirection Care has welcomed the passage of the new Aged Care Act through the Australian Parliament.
The legislation aims to put older people at the centre of our aged care system which aligns with NewDirection Care's commitment to put residents and participants at the heart of our decision-making process and support them to continue to live a full life.
NewDirection Care runs the first of its kind in Australia MICRO TOWN® aged care model in Bellmere, which resembles a typical suburban community equipped with a grocery store, health and wellness hub, hairdressers, café and much more.
Founder and managing director of NewDirection Care Natasha Chadwick thanked both sides of politics for coming to an agreement on this important legislation.
"We welcome the new legislation which includes strengthening the powers of the regulator Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission to maintain high standards within the aged care industry," she said.
"Aged care is about more than care and clinical outcomes. it is critical that we focus on providing positive experiences and quality of life as people age.
Ms Chadwick recently hosted the Minister for Aged Care and Sport the Hon Anika Wells at the Bellmere community, which is a 50-minute drive north of Brisbane.
"It was an honour to welcome the minister to Bellmere in July and we deeply appreciate the Government's commitment to improve Australia's aged care system," she said.
"While our model has been acknowledged for its success with people living with dementia – there is enormous potential for it to be used widely for all aged care services across Australia.
"With more Australians opting out of 'traditional' aged care, older Australians deserve innovative models that meet their growing needs and expectations."
