The Tasmanian Government has today launched a new Lifting Literacy website, highlighting our commitment to improving literacy rates in Tasmania.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said our Government's Lifting Literacy 3-Year Implementation Plan sets out our ambitious reform journey to reach our goal of all Tasmanians having the literacy skills they need to participate fully in their community.
"The Tasmanian Government's Lifting Literacy initiative is underpinned by an aspirational and inclusive vision to lift literacy so that, no matter their age, background, or circumstances, all Tasmanians can grasp the opportunities to develop or improve their literacy skills," Minister Palmer said.
"We are committed to ensuring students get the support they need with reading earlier than ever before.
"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, Government primary schools will be required to teach at least one hour per day of structured literacy from the start of the school year in 2025."
At the core of the Implementation Plan is the Minimum Schooling Guarantee, which means all primary schools will deliver structured literacy instruction with a multi-tiered system of support for learners by 2026.
The Lifting Literacy website will be updated with news and activities from the Lifting Literacy Outcomes Monitoring Group (LLOMG).
The LLOMG is tasked to independently monitor the 3-year Lifting Literacy Implementation Plan.
The group is now working towards an Outcomes Monitoring Framework, which will measure progress towards reaching our goals to improve literacy outcomes in Tasmania.
