New Lighting For Seymour Tennis Complex

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence was in Seymour on Wednesday 10 July for the opening of the Seymour Tennis Complex Lighting Project.

The project has seen the installation of competition-standard LED lighting on four courts, ensuring the complex meets the highest standards for club competition and commercial level play.

The project comes in response to a shift in the pattern of competitive tennis play in Seymour. Historically, tennis was played on weekends during the daytime from October to March. However, recent years have seen a decline in this traditional schedule, partly due to warmer summer conditions.

More people are now participating in weeknight tennis competitions or enjoying social games under lights. Tennis is also being played for a longer period each year, typically from August to May in this area.

Acting Mayor Cr Nathan Clark said the project was a vital enhancement for the Seymour Tennis Complex.

"This upgrade is not just about enhancing our sports facilities; it's about promoting active living, improving local health outcomes, and strengthening our community bonds," he said.

"The improved lighting will make our courts more accessible and safer, encouraging more participation.

"We're very thankful for the support of the Victorian Government for this project. These works are another great example of what we can achieve in partnership."

The $164,772 project was made possible thanks to $109,848 from the Victorian Government's Local Sports Infrastructure Fund and $54,924 from Mitchell Shire Council.
