Funding has been approved and expressions of interest for works will soon be issued for a new $142.1 million indoor sports centre in the heart of Logan City (south of Brisbane).
This investment will help meet future community sport needs and support the region to attract more major events.
The accessible facility will consist of nine multi-purpose indoor courts across two separate halls capable of hosting 7,000 spectators during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
With a flexible design, the centre will be able to accommodate a range of sports including basketball, netball, volleyball, futsal, handball, wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, badminton, fencing, table tennis, and taekwondo.
The venue will also feature on-site car parking, food and beverage outlets, function rooms and an administration office.
The project will support an average of 192 full-time equivalent jobs across the two construction years from 2026 to 2028.
Logan City Council is providing the land for the new facility at Logan Central and will own and operate the venue, ensuring that it continues to provide community benefits well into the future.
The Australian and Queensland governments have approved funding from the $1.87 billion Minor Venues Program to invest in the new centre.
Both governments have committed to sourcing at least 30 per cent of procurement from Queensland small and medium-sized enterprises for the Minor Venues Program, as well as targets for 10-15 per cent of labour hours on the projects to be undertaken by apprentices or trainees - helping to deliver the pipeline of construction workers the growing state needs.
Expressions of Interest for the Managing Contractor and Architectural Services are set to progress to market this month.
