Last night Latrobe City Council elected its new Mayor and Deputy Mayor at the Mayoral Election.
Councillor Dale Harriman was nominated as Mayor along with Councillor Sharon Gibson as Deputy Mayor for the next twelve months.
Mayor Dale Harriman is Councillor of Loy Yang Ward, he first joined Council in 2011, was previously a Mayor in 2014 and is a supporter of industry, local sporting clubs and has a wealth of experience serving the community.
Deputy Mayor Sharon Gibson is Councillor of Newborough Ward, they were first elected to Council in 2008 and is aspiring to diversify Latrobe City's economy so it can once again be a powerhouse.
Latrobe City Council's Mayor Dale Harriman was honoured to accept the role and lead Council for this Mayoral Term.
"In putting my hand up tonight and accepting the nomination I know that this will not be an easy task.
"This community needs to be united and understand where it wants to go. We have seen shifts politically across the country and the world, it's been a community outpouring, crying out for leadership and that's what I have offered tonight.
"What I offer is leadership, hardwork and an ability to bring community together for a positive future," said the Mayor.
Latrobe City Council's Chief Executive Officer Steven Piasente welcomed Mayor Harriman and Deputy Mayor Gibson to their roles.
"Congratulations to Mayor Dale Harriman and Deputy Mayor Sharon Gibson for their election to each position. It is a privilege to have been selected by their colleagues.
"I look forward to working closely with them both to develop and implement a new Council Plan that reflects the aspirations of the community," said Mr Piasente.
Council will hold its first Council Meeting for the term on 16 December 2024.
