Residents in northern Brisbane and Moreton Bay will soon have free, walk-in mental health support and care with the opening of the Medicare Mental Health Centres in Caboolture, Redcliffe, Strathpine and Brisbane's inner north.
The Medicare Mental Health Centre will provide on-the-spot support, assessment, and care for people in distress or with ongoing mental health care needs.
Staffed by a multidisciplinary care team, including mental health social workers, nurses and peer support, it will provide wrap around support and care across extended hours.
To respond to growing need, the Albanese Government is rolling out 61 Medicare Mental Health Centres across the country, including 19 in Queensland.
To boost access to specialist cares, the government is investing an additional $29.9 million to provide access to psychologists and psychiatrists on call for every centre.
The centres will be co-funded with the Federal Government contributing $5.3 and the Queensland Government contributing $3.2 million towards to commission and operate the services.
All four centres are expected to be operational by July 2025.
