A new nine and 18-hole mini-golf course will provide plenty of summer fun at Council's Yarrambat Park Golf Course.
Belgravia Leisure, which manages the golf course on behalf of Council, has invested $1.2 million into the development of the facility, Goanna Golf, which is expected to open in December.
Other works as part of the project include a premium hospitality offering, Field Days Café, and upgrades to the traditional golf course.
The mini golf course will also be educational, with each hole themed around a native Nillumbik animal, providing facts about each species.
Nillumbik Mayor Karen Egan visited this week as works were about to start.
"Both families and school groups will be able to come down for a fun activity and learn about the beautiful native environment unique to the Nillumbik region," Cr Egan said.
"We are very excited to have an education-based attraction with multiple benefits to the community."
Belgravia Leisure CEO Nick Cox said changes to Yarrambat Park Golf Course would provide new opportunities for the community to connect and engage with the game.
"With a limited number of family entertainment venues within the region, and continued population growth surrounding the Nillumbik Shire, there is a huge opportunity to engage new users to get into golf through an inclusive family destination.
Centre Manager Michael McKay said the golf park had held several successful family events including Moonlight Cinemas, Easter hunts and food truck parks.
"Our events in recent years have allowed young families the opportunity to come together and socialise in their back yard," he said.
"We can't wait to bring even more inclusive entertainment options to everyone in Melbourne's northeast."
