New Mining Prospects Discovered in Rockhampton Region

L to R - Cr Latcham, Mayor Williams, Wade Clark at Resources Prospectus launch

Opportunities in the Rockhampton Region will be highlighted to businesses and key decision-makers, through a new Rockhampton Region Resources Prospectus and promotional campaign during the Queensland Mining & Engineering Expo (QME).

Held in Mackay from July 23-25, QME is attended by more than 5,000 people including CEOs, owners and directors of businesses working in the resources sector. Rockhampton Regional Council, through its lead economic development agency, Advance Rockhampton, will meet with industry leaders at QME and demonstrate why the Rockhampton Region is the perfect hub for mining and related servicing operations in Queensland.

The Rockhampton Region Resources Prospectus has today been launched, to be promoted alongside a billboard and social media campaign targeting attendees in Mackay. Representatives from Heritage Minerals, Hastings Deering and Stokes Mining have supported the campaign, participating in testimonial videos which will be displayed at the expo.

Mayor Tony Williams said the Rockhampton Region is evolving alongside the resources industry.

"The Rockhampton Region has always been synonymous with mining – first with gold, then coal, and now we're seeing an increased focus on minerals," Mayor Williams said.

"Rockhampton is the perfect central location for mining in the Bowen and Galilee Basin thanks to our excellent connectivity via road, rail, air and sea. We have the skilled businesses and trained workforce to support those operations, while also returning to our gold mining roots through the re-opening of the Mount Morgan Mine by Heritage Minerals.

"At QME, the Advance Rockhampton team will be spreading the word – all roads lead to Rocky with our region open for businesses with affordable industrial land, growing industry, quality services and a strong economy."

The resources sector is worth $2.4 billion to the Rockhampton Region's economy and supports almost 13,000 jobs, according to data from the Queensland Resources Council. CQUniversity's School of Mining and the Rockhampton Manufacturing Hub are among the unique facilities available in the region.

Advance Rockhampton's Economic Development Manager Wade Clark said the Rockhampton Region is unmatched in its offerings.

"There aren't many locations which come close to what the Rockhampton Region can offer, both in terms of connectivity and the array of resources in our backyard," Mr Clark said.

"While coal is still big business, we also have deposits of cobalt, gold,, magnetite, magnesite, molybdenum, nickel and sapphire within a few hours' drive.

"Our team will be taking the lead at QME, and showing decision-makers in the resources industry that the Rockhampton Region is the missing piece in their puzzle."
