- Midland Station multistorey car park to open on Monday, 20 January

The New Midland Station Project will reach a major milestone next week, with the recently completed multistorey car park officially opening to commuters on Monday, 20 January.
The car park, located within the existing station's footprint, features five levels including an open-air top deck, 778 parking bays including 20 ACROD bays, 13 motorcycle bays, Pay by Plate and SmartParker machines, lifts, lighting, CCTV, duress alarms and the provision for future electric car charging stations.
Commuters will be able to start using the new car park from 20 January, with parking free for all SmartRider holders until 5 February as part of the Summer of Free Travel. Outside of this initiative, parking will be charged at $2 per 24-hour period or part thereof - the same as parking at any other Transperth station.
The existing car park will now be decommissioned to allow construction to begin on the temporary and permanent bus interchange.
Visual amenity has been a key consideration, and the multistorey car park has been designed to reflect both the geographical landmarks and the colours of local Aboriginal language groups.
On top of providing protection from the sun, wind and rain, the brightly coloured exterior was designed to represent the area between the Western Australian coast and the nearby Darling Ranges. The faade, which was made from powder-coated aluminium fins, is laid out in a pattern that maps the shape of the Swan, Canning and Helena rivers.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"The opening of the new multistorey car park marks a major milestone in our redevelopment of the Midland Station.
"The new carpark includes 770 parking bays across the five-storey building, providing much needed relief to the station's previous parking pressure.
"The opening of the new car park means we can also commence the next phase of the project, which will see a new bus interchange built on the site of the existing car park.
"This project is reshaping the heart of Midland and will deliver positive benefits to the community for decades to come."
As stated by Midland MLA Michelle Roberts:
"This new multi-deck car park will make it easier than ever before for people in Midland and surrounding areas to access our world-class train network.
"The car park itself looks incredible, with a strong focus on visual amenity that links to the local geography.
