New Multi-deck Carpark Open For Sunbury Commuters

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Commuters in Sunbury and surrounding areas can enjoy more room for parking at their local station, with works complete on a new multi-level carpark.

The four-level structure, jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian governments, including from the Victorian Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution, and Hume City Council, delivers 300 new commuter car spaces, along with 100 new retail spaces.

The new carpark will not only make it easier for commuters catching the train, but also ease pressure on neighbouring streets often used for parking by commuters, shoppers and shop owners.

Accessible parking for people with disabilities, enhanced lighting, improved signage and lifts have also been included in the build, as well as improved access for pedestrians.

This follows the completion of the Sunbury Line upgrade ahead of the opening of the Metro Tunnel in 2025, which included improved signalling, station accessibility and platform extensions along the line.

These upgrades are needed to take full advantage of the extra capacity created by the tunnel, which will be a gamechanger for public transport in Melbourne, delivering new connections and opening capacity to further improve services in the future.

The Victorian Government's commitment was delivered under its Car Parks for Commuters Program - a state-wide program that has already helped deliver over 18,000 new and upgraded car parks across Victoria since 2015, with more than 3,000 still to come.

The Sunbury Station car park is part of the broader Commuter Car Park Upgrades - Northern Lines project, to which the Australian Government has committed $89.1 million.
