We're passionate about supporting early career researchers. That's why we're thrilled to be a partner for the newest cluster of the British Academy's Early Career Researcher Network (ECRN).
Tailored support
We've joined up with Northumbria University and Queen's University Belfast to form the North East and Northern Ireland (NENI) cluster of the British Academy's emerging Early Career Researcher Network across the UK.
It will provide early career researchers in humanities and social sciences with access to a comprehensive range of tailored support.
Whilst led by Durham, Northumbria and Queen's universities, the network will be open to early career researchers from all universities and other organisations that carry out research across the North East of England and Northern Ireland.
It will be designed and led by early career researchers, ensuring their needs and requirements are at the forefront.
Flourish at Durham
As a research-intensive university we're committed to developing the best environment possible for all those involved in research.
The NENI branch of the British Academy's ECRN is just one way we are working to ensure our researchers have access to a wealth of support and opportunities to developing thriving careers
This forms part of our Flourish at Durham research culture programme, where we are committed to ensuring our university is one that enables research to be fun, fulfilling and fruitful.
Transformative Humanities
Launched in 2021 in partnership with the Wolfson Foundation, the British Academy ECRN is an inclusive, researcher-led network open to all UK-based early career researchers.
The NENI cluster is the sixth branch of the network, which offers everything from mentoring and publishing conferences, to grant writing advice and seed funding programmes.
As the British Academy's flagship support scheme for early career researchers, the ECRN covers researchers working in 'SHAPE' disciplines – Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy.
This commitment to supporting SHAPE disciplines is reflected in our Transformative Humanities initiative which uses the strengths of humanities research and education to connect different disciplines and improve lives.
Early career researchers based in the North East and Northern Ireland can apply to join the network via the British Academy's website.
