NT Government

To ensure the future growth, strength and capability of the community housing sector, Ms Wendy Morton has been appointed the Community Housing Registrar for the Northern Territory.

The Community Housing Registrar is responsible for regulatory activities, to ensure a well governed, managed and viable community housing sector that meets the needs of tenants, government and private investors.

Ms Morton has been a tireless advocate for vulnerable Territorians for more than two decades, most recently as the former Executive Director of the Northern Territory Council of Social Services.

Having spent 14 years campaigning for Territorians on issues such as alcohol, housing disabilities, mental health, youth justice and child protection, Ms Morton has a wealth of experience.

Ms Morton also spent eight years as the Disability Discrimination Advocate and Outreach Worker at Darwin Community Legal Service.

Community housing providers in the Northern Territory currently manage approximately 1000 dwellings.

The Territory Labor Government is well down the path in the development of a Community Housing Growth Strategy for the Northern Territory, as part of the "A Home for all Territorians: the Northern Territory Housing Strategy 2020 – 2025" action plan.

The development of a Community Housing Growth Strategy will support the community housing sector to expand the number of social and affordable dwellings managed by the sector.
