Virtual science talks are organized by OHSU's Oregon National Primate Research Center

Learn about a variety of topics impacted by neuroscience research — ranging from potential treatments for blindness and movement disorders to the impact that cannabis use can have on pregnancy — through a series of Science Café talks hosted by Oregon Health & Science University's Oregon National Primate Research Center.
OHSU organizes two informal public discussions series about science each year to share noteworthy research efforts involving its Oregon National Primate Research Center. OHSU's Science Cafés are being held virtually during the coronavirus pandemic.

April 5: "Advances in the Quest to Cure Blindness"
- Experts will describe multiple new strategies to prevent or reverse vision loss due to inherited retinal diseases and age-related macular degeneration, including progress in animal models and in human clinical trials.
- The speakers for this lecture will be:
- Martha Neuringer, Ph.D., professor of neuroscience, OHSU's Oregon National Primate Research Center.
- David Wilson, M.D., professor of ophthalmology, OHSU School of Medicine; and, director of the OHSU Casey Eye Institute.

April 11: "Therapies Under Development for Huntington's Disease"
- Experts will discuss potential treatments for Huntington's disease that are being developed, as well as a new monkey model of the disease that's helping advance clinical trials.
- The speakers for this lecture will be:
- Jodi McBride, Ph.D., associate professor of neuroscience, OHSU's Oregon National Primate Research Center.
- Lauren Talman, M.D., assistant professor of neurology, OHSU School of Medicine.

April 19: "Cannamoms and Their Kids: Marijuana Use in Pregnancy and Parenting"
- Experts will explore what is known about the impact of marijuana on conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- The speakers for this lecture will be:
- Jamie Lo, M.D., M.C.R., associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology (perinatology and maternal-fetal medicine), OHSU School of Medicine, and Division of Reproductive and Developmental Sciences, OHSU's Oregon National Primate Research Center.
- Kim Ryan, M.D., resident-physician in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, OHSU School of Medicine.
- Kristin Prewitt, M.D., M.P.H., resident-physician in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, OHSU School of Medicine.

April 26: "Emerging Therapies for Multiple Sclerosis: From Stopping Disease to Repairing the Damage"
- Experts will discuss new findings related the causes of multiple sclerosis, how to stop its attacks and OHSU research that seeks to repair brain damage caused by those attacks.
- The speakers for this lecture will be:
- Larry Sherman, Ph.D., professor of neuroscience, OHSU's Oregon National Primate Research Center.
- Bruce Bebo, Ph.D., executive vice president of research, National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
