Do you know your number plate? The City of Adelaide has started installing new ticketless parking machines based on vehicle registration details.
Almost 300 ticket machines in the Adelaide CBD and North Adelaide reliant on the 3G mobile phone network need to be replaced before it is phased out nationally next June.
The new solar-powered parking machines operate with secure "tap and pay" technology using debit or credit cards.
Motorists will be required to enter their number plate details into the machine which will issue an electronic receipt. No paper tickets will be printed.
Following a successful pilot of the new technology, nine machines are being installed at Hindmarsh Square to obtain public feedback before the full roll-out early next year.
Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith said it was important to engage with the community before the machines were widely introduced.
"We are installing a few now so we have time to fine tune the experience before all the machines get upgraded in the new year," the Lord Mayor said.
"It's important motorists know their number plate details so they can enter them into the machine, which will no longer print paper tickets to put on your dashboard."
The City of Adelaide will monitor the performance of the machines in Hindmarsh Square to gauge public feedback before the machines become fully operational.
The new parking machines are powered by solar panels and backed up by lithium batteries.
They have a user-friendly interface that facilitates quick, simple and secure parking payments.
There will be instructions on each machine to ensure the process of making payments is clearly explained.
