New Plan to Boost Support for Strategic Projects

This week Shellharbour City Council unanimously endorsed the Strategic Projects Advocacy Plan 2024-25 marking a significant step towards securing financial investment in our city's future.

The Advocacy Plan demonstrates Council's commitment to achieving our priority projects, outlining how they can be accomplished with financial support from state and federal governments, industry, and businesses. These projects will add value to our community while advancing social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

Council will seek opportunities for funding support on several key projects including a Regional Multi-Sports, Aquatics and Leisure Facility, Performing Arts Centre, Convention and Cultural Community Centre, Active Transport Network, flood risk mitigation and climate resilience works, upgrades to playgrounds, amenities and cemeteries.

While the Advocacy Plan contains a number of worthy projects, it is important to note that the incorporation of a project within this document does not imply that it will be undertaken. Like all projects, the cost and benefit to the community must meet or exceed relevant metrics as determined by Council.

Projects within the plan are categorised into Future Concept, Pending Design, Shovel Ready and the responsibility of the NSW State Government. They are also identified as Regional, City-wide, or Neighbourhood to outline who will benefit most from these projects.

Shellharbour City Council CEO Mike Archer is looking forward to using this document to establish financial support for Shellharbour's growth and development.

"We have a responsibility to advocate for and deliver on our community's needs at multiple levels. The projects outlined in this plan will help support not just our residents but visitors for years to come," he said.

"There are endless reasons to invest in Shellharbour and I'm looking forward to using this document to secure project support and advocate for our region."
