Exciting works are underway at Michael O'Hanlon Park in Lakes Creek, with the instalment of a brand-new playground for the local community.
The upgrade is part of Rockhampton Regional Council's playground renewal program which is delivering upgraded play equipment to neighbourhoods across the Region.
Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said works at the Lakes Creek park kicked off this week.
"This project includes replacing the outdated playground equipment as well as installing brand new shade structure and updated seating," Cr Rutherford said.
"This means children can soon enjoy exploring this playground all year round thanks to the increased shade and parents and caregivers will appreciate the additional seating while looking after their children."
The new playground boasts a neo spinner, double swings, cubby unit, turtle rocket and a multiplay unit with two slides, monkey bars and climbing elements.
"We've selected equipment that offers a mix of activities for varied ages and abilities," Cr Rutherford said.
"There's something for toddlers, right through to pre-teens, all designed to foster play while having fun."
Divisional Councillor Grant Mathers said the new playground will be a great addition for families and individuals who frequent Michael O'Hanlon Park.
"I can see many families eager to have this project complete so their children can enjoy the new equipment," Cr Mathers said.
"The playground will be closed to the public while the month-long project is completed, but the rest of the park remains open.
"Thank you to community in advance for your patience, I am sure the finished result will be worth the wait."
The project is expected to be completed by mid-March and is part of a renewal program with Kerr Park the next playground to receive an update.
