The Allan Labor Government is creating more dog parks right across Victoria for families to take their beloved pooches out to play, exercise and socialise in a safe place.
Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos today announced $4.9 million will be invested to delivered 26 new and upgraded dog parks as part of Round two of the New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program.
The designs of the parks will follow community consultation and will feature things including designated play areas, drinking fountains, fencing, shelters, bins and shading, as well as other upgrades such as pathway improvements, landscaping and lighting.
The dog park projects were chosen through a statewide competitive application process with councils, with construction expected to be completed on all projects by the end 2026.
McIvor Reserve in Yarraville has received $100,000 to upgrade the off-lead dog area to allow more families and their dogs to enjoy the space, including a larger fenced off area, new dog agility equipment, new walking paths and park benches and water fountains.
There are already a further 19 dog park projects currently underway across Melbourne and Geelong which were announced part of the first round of the program.
These projects are being delivered as part of the Labor Government's $20.8 million investment to build new and upgraded dog parks and better parks and playgrounds.
This investment is all about creating more open space for families and their pets so they can get outdoors and explore nature close to home.
50 dog parks have already been completed across Victoria, from Werribee and Pakenham, to as far away as Mildura and Portland.
