Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today announced planning has commenced for two new primary schools to open in growing suburbs in Perth's north and east for the start of the 2025 school year.
Eglinton South West Primary School (planning name) in Eglinton and Brabham East Primary School (planning name) in Brabham - announced as part of the 2022-2023 Mid-year Review - will cater for 540 students, providing additional education options for local families.
Both schools will include an administration, early childhood teaching area, general learning areas, specialist rooms for art and science, library, covered assembly area, music room, oval and hard courts.
Eglinton South West Primary School will provide enrolment relief to the growing Shorehaven Primary School, and will include an education support facility for approximately 50 additional students with classrooms, low stimulus rooms and therapy and sensory rooms.
Brabham East Primary School will provide enrolment relief for nearby Brabham Primary School. Space has also been set aside on this site for a third party to build and operate a facility that offers long day care and before and after school care.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"The McGowan Labor Government is committed to building outstanding facilities to ensure our education system keeps up with the population in our fastest-growing suburbs and eases pressure on existing schools.
"Families with young children in the Eglington and Brabham areas will no doubt be delighted that more quality education options are being made available to them.
"These new public primary schools will have state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring local students have access to exceptional learning opportunities.
"They will also provide enrolment relief to nearby Shorehaven Primary School and Brabham Primary School as young families choose to live in these communities."
As stated by Butler MLA John Quigley:
"Eglinton is growing fast, and quality local schools are key to our efforts to build Perth's north and provide the best opportunities for families who call it home.
"I've been advocating for a new public primary school for the Eglinton community for years, with these efforts culminating in my petition earlier this year. What a result for local families."
As stated by West Swan MLA Rita Saffioti:
"The new Brabham East Primary School will significantly expand educational opportunities for young families in the Brabham area and is an exciting investment in our community's future.
"Its modern facilities will inspire students to learn, as well as support teachers and staff members to provide students with the best possible learning environments to thrive in."
