As the first rains hit the City, a vibrant rainbow supergraphic has come to life at the intersection of James and Lake streets in Northbridge.
Displaying the colours of the the Pride flag, the supergraphic installation pays homage to the WA LGBTQIA+ community and celebrates Northbridge as a diverse and inclusive meeting place for all.
This project originated from a motion put forward by Councillor Catherine Lezer in 2022, aiming to identify the ideal location for the artwork within the City.
Additionally, the City's LGBTQIA+ Advisory Group provided valuable input on the design and placement of the supergraphic.
With the Northbridge Piazza serving as the main headquarters of PrideWA and Northbridge being the home of Connections, one of the oldest gay nightclubs in the southern hemisphere, the neighbourhood has long been a cherished space for the WA LGBTQIA+ community.
"Pride WA welcomes the fabulous rainbow road right in front of our community's home at the Pride Piazza. It is a celebration of our LGBTQIA+ community and a reminder of the importance of our visibility. We also look forward to incorporating the road rainbow into the annual Pride Parade in November!" said Dr Lauren Butterly, CEO of Pride WA.
This colourful addition provides a striking entry point to Northbridge, symbolising the City of Perth's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
